Payette School District Sets Weekly Collaboration for 2018-2019 School Year
At the regular meeting of the Board on May 14th, trustees voted unanimously to support the implementation of weekly collaboration for all schools in Payette beginning fall of 2018. All staff in Payette School District will be working together to improve student learning. Each Wednesday, students will be dismissed an hour early while staff work in teams to analyze data to make better decisions about teaching and learning. The goal is to improve our system for the benefit of all of our children.
The decision to schedule weekly collaboration follows a year of administrative studies and school goal setting. Thirty years of research confirm the tremendous impact of professional collaboration as the most promising major reform effort for substantive school improvement. Administrators and teachers are grateful for the support of the community in providing time to invest in building teacher effectiveness, the number one determining factor of student learning.
During the weekly collaboration hour teachers will use data to make direct connections between instructional strategies and the outcomes for all students. Staff will be guided and supported in collaboration structures while being held accountable for the expected use of this time. Data teams will be designed for structured collaboration with learning as a central goal. The sole purpose of data teams is to improve teaching and leadership and, as a result, to improve student learning and accelerate achievement levels for all students.
The District has been communicating with day care providers, business owners, City officials and community resources to assist with the planning. The Library, pool, after school program and the Boys and Girls Club are preparing for the extra hour with students.
Thank you for your support as we learn and strive to do the best for all our students. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your building administrator.
Architects and Construction Managers
During the month of April, the Payette School Board of Trustees interviewed and selected Hutchison-Smith Architects, P.A. (HSA) for work in developing a new vision for District facilities. Last fall the buildings were evaluated to form the 10-year plan on file with the State. As conscientious stewards for the District, the Board began asking questions about what to repair, repurpose or build to benefit future students and educational programming. Partnering with an architect firm is the first step in answering questions and developing a vision. HSA was selected from a list of eight firms and three finalists. They will be part of community conversations to inform the work.
Along with the architect firm, the district will select a construction manager (CM) who will supervise any projects, overseeing specialized contractors, bids and personnel. It is important to have a construction manager from the start to have full understanding of the community and vision for the District. Interviews and selection of the CM will take place in July.
These experts, architect and construction manager, will assist Payette School District and the community to determine need, vision, costs and funding BEFORE we move any further. Costs to the District at this level are minimal and tied to the creation of documents for posting. Budgeting for the architects and CM will be associated with funding when we know for certain the long-range plan for our facilities. There will be many committees and meetings with our stakeholders to set the course for the future.
